This Old House, the popular Emmy® Award-winning home improvement television show, is once again using TruStile Doors in one of its remodeling projects. The Auburndale project involves the extensive remodel of a 1940s Colonial Revival home on the banks of the Charles River outside of Boston.
Prior to the renovation, the Auburndale project lacked character and appeal when compared to neighboring homes. Local architect Chris Chu worked with This Old House general contractor Tom Silva and team to transform the home both inside and out. Among the many updates made to the home was the installation of a TruStile exterior MDF door in the new entry hall and new TruStile interior MDF doors. Architecturally pleasing door styles were chosen that supported the clean crisp look that the homeowners were after.
“I really appreciate the complete flexibility that TruStile offers and the detail and precision with which the doors are made” says architect Chu. “Mirrors were able to be seamlessly incorporated into the upstairs closet doors while maintaining the bevel profile that was present in the old existing doors. And, the new TruStile doors offer a much sturdier, thicker panel that exudes a higher level of quality.”
TruStile’s ability to build architecturally correct doors in any size was also helpful on the Auburndale project. Some non-standard 6’6" tall doors required replacement on the upstairs of the home. The This Old House team ordered TruStile doors built to fit these openings rather than resorting to cutting down a standard 6’8" tall door.
“We are proud to again have our doors used within a This Old House project” says Scott Schmid, President and CEO of TruStile Doors. “Doors are a critical design element, especially on historic remodels. TruStile’s ability to build high quality doors in any style and profile means our product can complement and enhance any project.”
The installation of the interior and exterior doors provided by TruStile will appear in This Old House Auburndale project episode #3013, which will begin airing nationally on December 30 on PBS.
